Here is “part 2” of how to use hidari-ba (left-blade) carving knives/scrapers in the video series for beginners.

In this footage, my father explains (in Japanese) and demonstrates how to hold a hidari-ba tool with the right hand and the left thumb, and the method of use, i.e., how to move the tool, which is the most efficient, even for delicate and minute carving.

It is important that beginners get used to this method and the way to hold the tool with hands. We recommend experienced carvers to watch this video, too.
