More than 10 gorgeous uchikake (outer robes) are on display at the Pola Museum Annex in Ginza, Tokyo from June 4, 2021.
I translated the titles of them with a great help of Julia Hutt (former V&A curator and currently working as freelancer).
Ranging from traditional motifs to a Picasso’s painting, the flamboyant designs of these uchikake reflect the time of their production, which was the 1980s and 90s when Japan enjoyed the bubble economy.
