[Exhibition / Göteborg, Sweden] Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk

The Museum of World Culture
From August 17, 2021

This is a traveling exhibition originally held at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

Europe’s first major exhibition on kimono. The ultimate symbol of Japan, the kimono is often perceived as traditional, timeless and unchanging. Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk counters this conception, presenting the garment as a dynamic and constantly evolving icon of fashion.

On view are over 315 works of kimono from the 17th century to the present day, kimono-inspired dresses, paintings, prints, film and dress accessories including several inro and tobacco pouches.

There have been netsuke aficionados in Scandinavia for decades. I hope this exhibition will help increase the number of fans of Japanese culture, especially of kimono and sagemono!
