[Exhibition / Nara prefecture] “The Beauty of Arts, the Mind of Toen: to Mark the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Morikawa Toen, a Master Sculptor of Modern Nara Carvings”

On view are 19 netsuke including 6 works from HIH Princess Takamado’s Collection and 1 kogo (incense container), as well as a sculpture commissioned by Emperor Meiji and many more excellent carvings by Morikawa Toen with the themes of kyogen and sacred deers associated with the Kasugataisha Shrine.

My father Ryushi says that Toen is a very good sculptor who should be more highly regarded, and I agree!
